Phyllidiid Nudibranchs Phyllidia varicosa and Phyllidiella pustulosa were observed under laboratory conditions and abnormal behaviours were recorded. This study described the manoeuvering, mating behaviour, egg laying and abnormal activities. Some abnormal behaviours were recorded while retaining the sample in the aquarium such as emitting noxious chemicals, lifting up the mantle edge to. Mimicry. Juveniles of the sea cucumber, Pearsonothuria graeffei are brightly coloured and closely resemble Phyllidia are white and blue or black, with a few large, yellow, thorn-like projections. These bright colours warn predators of the toxicity of the nudibranch, and this mimicry on the part of the sea cucumber species serves to protect it also.

The systematics, phylogeny and ecology of Phyllidiid Nudibranchs (Doridoidea) By David J. Brunckhorst Topics: Phylliroidae, 06 Biological Sciences. 'So I did, and in hindsight it was good to gain the broader experience, but at the time I was irritated that taxonomy [systematics] was seen as somehow too specialised.’ Nerida is working to understand the evolutionary (phylogenetic) relationships of nudibranchs. In particular, she is studying a large species complex found in Antarctica.

Building on the authors book. In all, 22 new species of phyllidiid nudibranchs are described. Study of anatomy has allowed a phylogenetic hypothesis to be proposed for the first time. Ceratophyllidia is the sister group to the.

According to this phylogeny, the most basal clade of the dorid nudibranchs includes four species of ‘Bathydoris’, which is the sister of ‘Bathydoris’ clavigera Thiele, plus a clade containing ‘Bathydoris’ spiralis Valdés, and the rest of the dorid nudibranchs.

Within the latter clade, the Phanerobranchia includes about. A recent molecular phylogenetic study on Glaucus, a genus of neustonic aeolid nudibranchs, revealed undescribed cryptic diversity. Glaucus atlanticus is sister to the traditional species Glaucus marginatus, which is a complex of four genetically distinct cryptic species (Informal clade ‘Marginatus’).

The present paper revises the systematics of Glaucus and provides formal descriptions for.Potts, G. W. ().
